Inclusion begins with understanding. The We Belong project, an initiative of The Flagstaff Group, is on a mission to educate, inspire and empower communities across New South Wales to become more welcoming and accessible for people with disability.
Every community, whether it is a local sports club, a school, a service group or a neighbourhood book club, has the power to make a real difference. When community members take the time to listen, learn and act, people with disability feel safer, more confident and more connected to the things that matter to them.
Why community matters
People with disability often face barriers that go beyond physical access. Attitudes, assumptions and a simple lack of awareness can make it difficult to feel welcome and included. Through storytelling, education and genuine connection, We Belong is working to change that, one community at a time.
What you can do
You do not need to be an expert to make your community more inclusive. Small actions make a big difference. Learning about the experiences of people with disability, making your space more accessible, or simply offering a warm welcome can open doors that have long been closed.
We Belong offers resources, training and real stories from people with lived experience to help your community take that next step toward genuine inclusion.
Together, we can build a community where everyone belongs.
