Disability Awareness

What is disability awareness?

Disability awareness means understanding and respecting the rights, needs, and contributions of people with disability. It is about making sure everyone is included and treated equally.

What does it involve?

Disability awareness is about learning how to treat people with disability with respect. It helps us understand how to interact well with people who have physical, sensory, cognitive, or mental health conditions.

It is not just about disabilities you can see. Many people live with conditions that are not visible, or that change from day to day. These conditions can still affect how a person goes about their daily life.

A disability is any condition of the body or mind that affects what a person can do or how they take part in everyday life.
